Santa Monica, CA (July 30, 2024) A pedestrian lost their life on the 10 Freeway in Santa Monica early on Tuesday morning, July 30th. Officers Sean Lough with the California Highway Patrol told City News Service that the victim was struck at the exit to Fourth Street, in the westbound lanes of traffic.
It was early morning in Santa Monica as a pedestrian walked along the Santa Monica (10) Freeway. As the sun began to rise, vehicles sped by. Suddenly, a vehicle struck the pedestrian, knocking them several feet into the air before they hit the ground, reports indicated.

Emergency personnel arrived at the scene and found the pedestrian on the ground with life-threatening injuries. The Santa Monica Police Department joined the CHP at the scene, where they discovered that the victim was unresponsive. They began life-saving treatment, but it was too late. The victim had been killed in the accident and, with heavy hearts, officers pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene.
The California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert and encouraged drivers to find an alternate route, as they closed a portion of the 10 Freeway. It remained closed for well over 3 hours as officers investigated the scene. They continue to work to determine what exactly happened on that early summer morning that cost a pedestrian their life.
