Bakersfield, CA (October 30, 2023) A pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle in Bakersfield on Saturday night, according to the California Highway Patrol. The driver of the vehicle that hit the pedestrian, pulled over and called 911 around 10:30 p.m.
A woman was driving a 2014 Nissan east on Niles Street, just west of Barlow Street, in the No. 1 lane on Saturday night. Simultaneously, a pedestrian was walking in an unknown direction, wearing dark-colored clothes. They were in the No. 1 lane outside of the crosswalk when the Nissan struck them.

The driver of the Nissan immediately stopped and called 911. She remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities once they arrived. Officers reached the scene and found the pedestrian down in the roadway with serious injuries. Paramedics transported the pedestrian to Kern Medical Hospital, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Shortly after arriving at the hospital, the pedestrian succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced dead at Kern Medical Hospital.
Alcohol and drugs were not factors in this collision but authorities are still investigating to determine what happened on Niles Street.
