Wilmington, CA (August 3, 2024) The community of Wilmington woke up to tragic news this morning. 60-year-old Heidi Gangi was struck by a vehicle and sustained fatal injuries, according to reports. The accident occurred around 9:15 p.m. on Friday, August 2nd, on the Harbor 110 Freeway, not far from the Anaheim Street exit.
Heidi Gangi was walking through the darkness along the northbound 110 Freeway in Wilmington on Friday night. For reasons that remain unknown, she began walking in one of the middle lanes, according to reports. As she walked, a white hatchback was driving along the freeway, heading towards her. The driver didn’t see Gangi until it was too late. The hatchback struck the pedestrian, sending her flying through the air before she landed in the middle of the roadway.

The Los Angeles Fire Department and the California Highway Patrol arrived at the scene and found the pedestrian and the hatchback. They hurried to the check on the pedestrian who wasn’t moving. Sadly, they learned that 60-year-old Heidi Gangi had sustained fatal injuries during the accident. She was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities, according to Officers A. De La Rosa with the CHP.
Officers issued a SigAlert and had to close four lanes on the northbound 110 Freeway for several hours. They waited for the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner’s office to come to the scene. They investigated the accident and took a statement from the driver of the hatchback, officers stated.
