Pismo Beach, CA (August 26th, 2023) A pedestrian was killed on Thursday night by an SUV on Highway 101, according to the California Highway Patrol. The accident happened around 10:12 p.m. in Pismo Beach.
23-year-old Mikaela Torres of Carpenteria was traveling southbound on Highway 101 just north of Five Cities Drive in a 2011 Nissan Murano. The California Highway Patrol said that a pedestrian suddenly ran into the street directly in front of Torres’ car. Authorities said it seemed to be an attempt to run across the highway to the center median.

It all happened so fast Torres wasn’t able to stop or avoid the pedestrian and hit him. Torres sustained injuries from the accident and her vehicle was badly damaged. The pedestrian, a 61-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The California Highway Patrol said this investigation is ongoing.
