Pedestrian Killed In Long Beach Crash Near A 7-Eleven

Mother and son killed in Los Angeles hit-and-run, DUI suspected

Long Beach, CA (November 14, 2023) A pedestrian was killed in what authorities are referring to as a “violent crash” on Monday evening in Long Beach. According to the Long Beach Fire Department, the accident occurred just before 6:00 p.m. near a 7-Eleven at the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue.

Police officers and paramedics arrived at the scene and found a pedestrian on the ground. They also found a vehicle that looked to be nearly split in half and a second vehicle that was damaged. On the sidewalk, you could see where a bus bench was supposed to be, but had been ripped from the sidewalk and was laying in the parking lot near the 7-Eleven.

Paramedics hurried to the pedestrian to give them medical aid. They performed life-saving measures, but sadly, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. Their identity is being withheld until their next of kin has been notified, according to police officers.

The driver of one of the vehicles involved in the collision sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital to receive treatment. Investigators said that the driver of the second vehicle sustained minor injuries but was treated at the scene and didn’t require a hospital.

Investigators at the scene said that two other vehicle owners reported damage to their vehicles during this collision as well. Long Beach Police officers are investigating this collision to see what caused it and who was at fault. However, they believe that speed may have been a factor.

Liability In Long Beach Pedestrian Accidents

Thousands of pedestrians are killed or seriously injured every year in pedestrian accidents. According to the Centers for Disease Control, “An estimated 137,000 pedestrians were treated in emergency departments for nonfatal crash-related injuries in 2017. Per trip, pedestrians are 1.5 times more likely than passenger vehicle occupants to be killed in a car crash.” There are a number of factors that could lead to a pedestrian collision including:

  • Speeding
  • Drunk driving
  • Driver distraction
  • Inclement weather

All drivers have a legal obligation to exercise due care in order to avoid hitting pedestrians. The family of any victim that died in a pedestrian collision may have legal recourse through a wrongful death claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. A wrongful death attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
