San Diego, CA (September 19, 2023) A pedestrian was hit and killed by a car while walking down Interstate 5 near downtown San Diego on Sunday night (September 17, 2023). California Highway Patrol said the accident happened around 8:40 p.m.

Reports of a man being hit by a Nissan Altima on Interstate 5, north of State Route 163 began coming in to the California Highway Patrol. Upon arrival they learned that a man was walking in the southbound lanes when he was struck.
The driver of the car who hit him was a 26-year-old woman who remained at the scene and cooperated with officers. The left 2 lanes were closed for a while as CHP conducted an investigation.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The San Diego County Examiner’s Office will find out if the pedestrian was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the accident.
