Balboa Park, San Diego, CA (April 4, 2024) Two people were walking in the bike lane of Pershing Drive In Balboa Park, when one of them was hit by a vehicle. The injury accident occurred around 8:16 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3rd, in San Diego, according to officers. The pedestrian, identified as a 54-year-old man, sustained serious injuries in the collision.
The victim was walking with another person in the bike lane of Pershing Drive, near the intersection of B Street in Balboa Park. The two were heading west as a car approached them from behind. The driver of the vehicle began to drift and the car entered the bike lane, where it struck one of the pedestrians. The driver then fled the scene, according to reports.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene and found the man lying on the ground with serious injuries, his companion at his side. Paramedics discovered that the victim sustained a skull fracture, a collapsed lung, a deep cut to his lower lip, a cervical spinal column fracture and an intracerebral hemorrhage. He was rushed to a local hospital, via ambulance, to receive emergency medical care for serious injuries.
The San Diego Police Department’s Traffic Division is investigating this collision. They are determined to find the vehicle that fled the scene, and in doing so, also find the driver and bring him or her to justice.
