Bakersfield, CA (April 14, 2024) A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle that immediately fled the scene on April 13th. 45-year-old Estella Andino, a resident of Bakersfield, was killed in this awful crash. Officers with the Bakersfield Police Department reported that the accident took place at the intersection of South P Street and Ming Avenue just after 2:00 a.m.
It was the middle of the night in California as darkness covered Bakersfield. A female pedestrian was walking along Ming Avenue as a vehicle approached. Officers stated that the pedestrian was walking in the roadway and the approaching vehicle struck her. However, instead of stopping to render aid or to call for help, the driver hit the gas and fled the scene. The female pedestrian was left alone, in the darkness of night, with life-threatening injuries.
The Bakersfield Police Department arrived at the scene and found Andino lying in the middle of the intersection. The woman’s injuries indicated that she had been hit by a vehicle, but no vehicle was in the area. First responders did everything they could, but the woman succumbed to her injuries. Sadly, they pronounced her dead at the scene and called the Kern County Coroner’s Office.
Officers searched for any evidence that would help them identify the vehicle that struck Andino and are determined to find the vehicle. In finding the vehicle, officers hope to locate the suspect who was driving the vehicle at the time of the collision and bring him or her to justice for this fatal collision.
