Pedestrian Struck, Killed On 60 Freeway In Montebello

Montebello, CA (September 18, 2024) The community of Montebello was saddened as news spread of a pedestrian accident in the area. Right around 10:38 p.m., on the Pomona 60 Freeway, a pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle.

It was Tuesday night in Montebello on September 17th, 2024. Street lights and headlights illuminated areas of the road as motorists headed through the darkness. Near the Garfield Avenue off-ramp, a vehicle struck a pedestrian, officers reported. The impact threw the pedestrian several feet and they landed on the freeway. The driver of the vehicle immediately stopped and waited for officers to arrive at the scene.

The California Highway Patrol arrived at the scene and found the vehicle and the victim blocking one of the lanes of the freeway. They rushed to the pedestrian’s side, ready to administer life-saving treatment, but found the victim with fatal injuries. Officer Sergio Garcia reported that they pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

Officers began investigating the scene and issued a SigAlert as they blocked the eastbound lanes of the freeway for several hours. Officers are working to determine what caused this fatal accident, as well as who was at fault.
