Fresno, CA (October 24, 2023) A pedestrian was hit by a vehicle and seriously injured in Fresno on Monday, October 23rd., according to the California Highway Patrol. The collision occurred at approximately 11:40 a.m. on Herndon Avenue.
The California Highway Patrol reported that a driver suffered a medical episode while operating their vehicle and crashed into a person who was panhandling on the sidewalk. The medical episode caused the driver to swerve off of Herndon Avenue and up, onto the Highway 41 off-ramp, where they struck the pedestrian.

Following the collision, the driver crashed through a fence and then rammed into an SUV that was sitting in the Costco parking lot. The vehicle in the parking lot was occupied at the time of the collision and the people inside reported minor injuries from the crash.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene within minutes and found that the driver of the vehicle responsible for the collision was having a possible seizure. Emergency crews aided the driver while other paramedics helped the panhandler who had been struck. The pedestrian suffered major injuries in the collision and was transported to a local hospital to receive treatment.
