Person Killed By Train At Bart Station In Berkeley

Berkeley, CA (November 8, 2023) A person received fatal injuries after they were run over by a Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) train in Berkeley on Tuesday night, November 7th. The accident happened at the North Berkeley Station, according to authorities. The person was said to have actually gone under the train, according to the transit agency.

BART police officers were contacted shortly after 11:00 p.m. and told by the transit’s agency operations center that a person was underneath the train at the station. BART officers as well as the Berkeley Police Department, arrived at the train station around 11:20 p.m. and closed the station so they could investigate the accident. They were also waiting on the coroner to arrive and take the body.

At approximately 11:25 p.m., the person was pronounced dead at the scene. The Alameda County coroner was called and arrived at the scene around 12:30 a.m. to take possession of the body, according to the Bay Area Rapid Transit.

The station wasn’t reopened until after 1:30 a.m., but following an investigation, officers found no sign of foul play. They reviewed the train station’s security footage as well, according to BART.

The coroner has not released the deceased identity and is waiting to contact the person’s next of kin. Authorities are still investigating to try and determine why the person went under the train in the first place.
