Santa Monica, CA (October 18, 2024) A tragic accident occurred near the Santa Monica Pier on Thursday, October 17th, just before midnight. A pedestrian was run over by an SUV on Beach and sadly, did not survive. Reports indicated that the driver of the vehicle was arrested at the scene.
Mere minutes before midnight on Thursday, October 17th, a silver Infiniti was driving near the 1400 block of Beach in Santa Monica. For some reason, the vehicle drifted off the roadway and ended up in the sand, as it headed right for the pier. A pedestrian was near the pier and had no time to get out of the vehicle’s path. The Infiniti ran over the pedestrian before coming to a stop, according to reports.

Emergency personnel arrived at the scene and found the victim under the Infiniti on the sandy beach. Officers rushed to the victim’s side, ready to administer life-saving treatment, but it was too late. The pedestrian had been killed in the impact and, with heavy hearts, authorities pronounced the person dead at the scene. A tow truck arrived at the scene to remove the vehicle and video surveillance shows officers placing the drive in handcuffs at the scene. The accident remains under investigation as officers work to determine what exactly happened.
Update (10/21): The victim has been identified as 34-year-old Sherese Allen. The coroner determined she died from traumatic asphyxia. The motorist in the SUV hit her when he was driving in circles at high speeds on the sand.
