San Jose, CA (September 6, 2023) A teenage driver was arrested on Sunday, September 3rd, 2023, after hitting and killing a pedestrian. The San Jose Police Department said the pedestrian was struck around 3:20 a.m. while walking on the sidewalk.

The accident took place in the Winchester Boulevard and Walgrove Way area, just south of Interstate 280. A 2019 Hyundai SUV was being driving by a male teenager and heading north on Winchester Boulevard. For reasons unknown, the vehicle left the road, went up onto a sidewalk and hit a pedestrian who was walking. After hitting the pedestrian, the SUV continued moving north until it crashed into a tree.
Police officers said they later determined that the SUV had been stolen. The teenage driver was taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The pedestrian, however, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The teenager was arrested.
