Anaheim, CA (October 9, 2024) A woman named Jessica Ferrino was taking an evening walk when she was struck and killed by a vehicle in Anaheim on Tuesday, October 8, 2024. The fatal accident happened in the area of Wagner Avenue and South Rio Vista Street, around 6:30 p.m. The driver of the vehicle, 33-year-old Raymundo Rangel, was arrested.
The Anaheim woman left her house and took off on foot for an evening walk on Tuesday. It was something she did often and her husband waited for her to come home, but she never did, according to reports. She was walking through Anaheim neighborhoods as a silver Mercedes-Benz approached. Reports indicated that the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and lost control of the vehicle on a 90-degree turn. Officers reported that the vehicle drove off the roadway and went into a riverbed, striking Ferrino in the process. The Mercedes-Benz came to a stop in the Santa Ana River, approximately 50 feet away.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene and found the vehicle in the river. Reports indicated that officers had been searching for Ferrino since her husband called to report that she had not returned home from her walk. They found her and hurried to her side, but it was too late. She had succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. They also found the driver and another man inside the vehicle. Both men were detained, according to City News Service, and the driver faces felony DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter charges.
