Bakersfield, CA (January 29, 2024) A life was taken too soon in the Castle Ranch area of Bakersfield in early January. Atascadero resident, Victor Smith, was killed when a big rig crashed into the back of his vehicle on State Route 99, authorities said. This tragic accident took place right around 3:30 a.m., south of Taft Highway, reports indicated.
It was the middle of the night on January 3rd, when 43-year-old Victor Smith was driving his gray 2008 Toyota Prius on Golden State Highway (SR-99). Suddenly, a CNA Transportation big rig came up behind Smith’s Toyota on the highway. The semi-truck ended up rear-ending the Toyota, according to reports.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene of destruction on Highway 99 and found the Toyota in really bad shape. Paramedics did everything they could to save Smith’s life, but he succumbed to the life-threatening injuries he sustained in the accident. Sadly, Victor Smith was pronounced dead at the scene, on that January morning.
Investigators are still working on this deadly accident to try and determine what exactly happened and who was at fault. Evidence from the scene was gathered and officers are working diligently to figure out what caused this deadly accident on the Golden State Highway.
