Apple Valley, CA (August 6, 2024) A traumatic collision between a vehicle and a semi-truck occurred on Tuesday morning, August 6th, in Apple Valley. The accident left one person with serious injuries and they were airlifted to a hospital. It all happened on State Route 18 right around 9:15 a.m., not far from Milpas Drive.
A woman was driving a white Toyota Camry along State Route 18 on Tuesday morning, August 6th, heading east. She was about one mile east of Milpas Drive as she headed down the highway. A Double Eagle tractor-trailer was also driving west along State Route 18. Suddenly, the sedan swerved and crossed the double yellow lines, according to reports. The driver of the semi-truck watched the vehicle move directly in front of the semi and jerked the wheel. The truck headed toward the dirt shoulder on the left side of the road, in an attempt to avoid a head-on collision, according to reports.
The two vehicles still collided at high speeds, according to police reports. The impact smashed the front of the sedan and busted the windshield. The force even dented the front doors and busted out the front, side windows. The semi-truck was in the dirt, far from the roadway, with damage to its front-end as well. The driver of the truck sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the collision, reports indicated. The woman driving the sedan, however, sustained serious injuries in the accident.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found the two injured people and quickly set out to offer aid. They requested a medical helicopter to transport the woman to an out-or-area trauma center to receive medical treatment. She was rushed to St. Mary’s Medical Center and flown from there to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, according to reports. The driver of the semi-truck was taken to a nearby hospital via ambulance.
The California Highway Patrol Victorville Station is leading this investigation. They are working diligently to determine what happened to cause the sedan to cross into oncoming traffic on State Route 18. Tow trucks were requested to remove both of the damaged vehicles from the scene. This investigation remains ongoing.
