May 22,
(Merced, CA) A collision with a truck resulted in the death of one farmworker and injured 7 people west of Los Banos.
On Thursday, May 22, a little before 5 a.m., the California Highway Patrol learned about the Merced County crash. It occurred on the Interstate 5 Freeway close to the Highway 152 off-ramp.
When CHP officers arrived at the site, they discovered a van coming from Mendota slowly merged onto the westbound 152 ramp. At that moment, a big rig rear-ended the van. The collision caused the van to crash against the guardrail, rolling down an embankment and landing on its roof.
After assessing the Merced County crash, officers pronounced one of the passengers dead as a result of being ejected from the vehicle. Paramedics transported three other passengers suffering from major injuries. Four additional passengers had minor injuries.
