Costa Mesa, CA (September 25, 2024) A collision involving a sewage vacuum tanker truck and another vehicle occurred in Costa Mesa on Monday, September 23rd, 2024. The collision claimed one person’s life and left another with injuries, according to reports. It all happened around 8:40 a.m. at the intersection of Sunflower Avenue and Fairview Road.
Initial reports indicated that the sewage vacuum tanker truck ran a red light at the intersection of Sunflower Avenue and Fairview Road in Costa Mesa. A small SUV was heading through a green light as the tanker truck headed through the intersection. The SUV slammed into the side of the tanker truck, according to reports. The impact caused the tanker truck to fall onto its side, spilling sewage all over the roadway.

Emergency crews arrived at the scene with a HazMat team. Paramedics rushed to the sewage tanker truck and found that the driver had suffered fatal injuries in the accident. Sadly, they were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the SUV was transported to a hospital in the area with unknown injuries, according to reports.
The HazMat team cleaned up the leakage from the truck and tow trucks arrived to remove the damaged vehicles from the roadway. Officers are working to determine what caused the tanker truck to run the red light, leading to this fatal collision in Costa Mesa.
