Apple Valley, CA (April 10, 2024) Three people were airlifted to nearby hospitals following a collision between a semi-truck and a pickup truck. The crash took place on Outer Highway 15 in Apple Valley on Monday, April 8th, according to officers. It happened at approximately 11:17 a.m., at the intersection of Stoddard Wells Road.
A gray Ford F-150 pickup truck approached the intersection of Stoddard Wells Road and Highway 15 at the same time as a gray Volvo Semi-truck. The semi-truck slammed into the driver’s side of the Ford pickup in the intersection, according to reports. The force from the collision caused the driver of the Ford to lose control and it finally came to a stop on the dirt shoulder of the highway. When emergency crews arrived, they found the pickup on the shoulder of northbound I-15 Stoddard Wells Road/Bell Mountain off-ramp. The pickup’s airbags had deployed during the collision and it had severe damage to the driver’s side. It also had a flat tire, according to reports.
The semi-truck had sustained front-end damage in the accident, officers reported. Part of the truck’s driver’s side fender and front bumper were torn from the vehicle. It also sustained scratches and dents from where it had collided with the pickup. The driver of the truck was not injured in this collision, though.
Paramedics with the Apple Valley Fire Department found three people in need of medical attention following this collision. One person was found trapped inside the Ford pickup and had to be removed. Firefighters requested helicopters to rush the three injured victims to trauma centers. California highway Patrol, REACH and Mercy Air all sent helicopters to the scene. They transported the injured victims to the Apple Valley airport where they were airlifted to trauma centered that were out of the area.
Officers with the Apple Valley Police Department are leading the investigation into the collision. Their goal is to determine what caused this accident and also discover who is liable.
