Contra Costa County, CA (July 20, 2023) A fatal crash occurred on Byron Highway in Contra Costa County, killing the passenger. A Chevrolet Suburban was driving southbound on the highway when it suddenly swerved off the road and slammed into a dirt embankment.

Officers responded to reports of the accident on Saturday at 11:07 p.m. on Byron Highway, south of Clifton Court Road.
The driver sustained major injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment. However, medical personnel pronounced the passenger dead at the scene.
A DUI investigation was conducted and the driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
