Bakersfield, CA (September 18, 2023) A pedestrian was killed on Sunday morning after being hit by a vehicle in Bakersfield. The collision was first reported around 2:38 a.m., according to the Bakersfield Police Department.

Officers were called to the 9500 block of Meacham Road and found a pedestrian laying in the roadway. The pedestrian, a man, sustained major injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. He later died at the hospital, officers said.
An adult male driver was heading west on Meacham Road when he hit the pedestrian, walking west, in the roadway. Bakersfield Police Department said that alcohol and speed may have been factors in this accident. However, officers are unsure if it was the pedestrian or the driver who was intoxicated.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with officers. This accident is currently under investigation.
