Merced, CA (November 7, 2023) A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle in Merced on Friday, November 3rd, according to the Merced Police Department. The fatal accident occurred at West 15th Street and M Street around 9:18 a.m.
Police Sgt. Nathan McKinnon, told the Merced Sun Star that officers arrived at the scene to find a man, age 64, lying in the middle of the intersection with head trauma. Paramedics at the scene quickly placed him on a gurney and loaded him into an ambulance. They rushed him to an area trauma center with life-threatening injuries, where he later died.

McKinnon said the vehicle that struck the pedestrian was a Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by a Merced man. Witnesses at the scene told police officers that the driver made a complete stop at the 4-way stop at the intersection before the accident occurred. McKinnon said that it seemed that the pedestrian stepped in front of the vehicle, trying to cross to the north side of the street, as the pickup drove through the intersection.
The driver of the pickup remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities following the accident. Officers reported that speed was not a factor, but the collision remains under investigation.
