David Craig Arrested For DUI In Penn Valley Crash; Injuries Reported

1 Killed in multi-vehicle DUI crash on the 880 Freeway in Oakland.

Penn Valley, CA (November 10, 2023) 33-year-old David Craig was arrested for DUI on November 6th in Penn Valley, California, following a collision with a Freightliner. The Freighliner was driven by 43-year-old Penn Valley resident, Christopher Gleaves. The collision occurred around 2:13 p.m. on Highway 49.

It all started when Craig was heading south on Highway 49 at the State Route 20/Uren Street Intersection. Craig failed to stop at the intersection and drove right into a 2018 Freightliner’s path while attempting to cross to Uren Street. The California Highway Patrol Grass Valley Office reported David Craig was driving a 2015 Subaru Forester, which was broadsided by the Freightliner, driven by Gleaves.

After the initial collision, Craig’s Subaru was pushed to the southeast corner of the intersection by the Freightliner. California Highway Patrol Officer Jason Bice said, “Surprisingly, neither driver was seriously injured.” Fire fighters at the scene had to free Craig, who was trapped inside his Subaru following the crash. There are also reports of the vehicle catching on fire, but fire fighters quickly put out the flames.

Upon further investigation, officers discovered that David Craig appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. He was taken into custody at the scene and booked into Wayne Brown for misdemeanor DUI.

A tow truck was called to remove Craig’s totaled Subaru from the scene and crews worked to clean the crash site of debris.
