San Joaquin County, CA (December 8, 2023) Celestino Ybarra, 32, stopped to help someone and was struck by a big rig on Interstate 205 in San Joaquin County. He was killed in the tragic accident, authorities said. The California Highway Patrol said the accident occurred near El Rancho Road in the town of Tracy.
Ybarra saw a woman in a Honda Civic parked on the shoulder of the interstate. He pulled over, stopping in front of the Honda, to see if the woman needed any help. As he stepped out of the vehicle to walk back to the Honda to speak to the woman, she suddenly pulled out into traffic on Interstate 205. In doing so, she drove directly into the path of a big rig. The big rig hit Ybarra, throwing him. He landed at the bottom of an embankment, authorities said.

Emergency crews arrived at the scene, ready to give aid to Celestino Ybarra, but sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene. According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver of the Honda Civic was suspected of being under the influence of drugs at the time of the accident.
Ybarra’s family is angry and wants justice for his life being taken from them. He had a 16-year-old daughter who no longer has a father. “I’ve never hated anybody. But I hate her . . . ” Mariah Thorson, Ybarra’s daughter, said. “He had the biggest heart too. He was over here trying to help somebody . . . I felt like I got robbed of my dad.”
