Marina, California (January 30, 2024) Tragedy occurred in Marina when a driver decided to get behind the wheel while intoxicated. Lorenzo Alvarado Barron was strolling down Reservation Road when his life was stolen by a drunk driver. The 64-year-old Marina resident was not far from Crescent Avenue when he was struck by 21-year-old Daniel Anthony Serrano, a Salinas resident, authorities shared.
Barron was walking on Reservation Road on the evening of Sunday, January 28th. Shortly before 6:30 p.m., 21-year-old Serrano was driving on Reservation Road, approaching Barron. Serrano had a blood alcohol content of .08% as he drove, according to police officers. The distance between Barron and Serrano shortened until Serrano’s vehicle reached the pedestrian. Without warning, the vehicle struck Barron, leaving him with life-threatening injuries.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene to find Barron lying in the roadway, clinging to life. He was rushed to a local trauma center with major injuries, authorities said. Sadly, Barron succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Serrano remained at the scene following the tragic accident. While he was cooperative with police officers, they said it was obvious that he was intoxicated. Officers arrested him and booked him into the Monterey County Jail where he is being held on a $200,000 bail.
