Sacramento, CA (February 12, 2024) A family is dealing with the aftermath of a chaotic hit-and-run accident that left a boy hospitalized in Sacramento on Saturday night. The collision took place on Brookfield Drive at Franklin Boulevard right around 10:15 p.m., according to authorities, and involved a Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit vehicle.
The boy was walking down a sidewalk with an adult on Saturday night as a Sacramento County Sheriff’s Deputy K9 vehicle was heading north on Franklin. Suddenly, a car driving south ran a red light and turned east onto Brookfield, hitting the K9 vehicle. The force of the collision sent the deputy’s vehicle onto the sidewalk, where it struck the two pedestrians. The driver of the vehicle that struck the deputy’s K9 unit then fled the scene, officers reported.
Paramedics arrived at the scene and found the boy lying on the sidewalk, shocked and scared. Officials reported that he was conscious and breathing when they arrived at the scene. He was gently loaded into an ambulance and rushed to a local hospital where he remains.
