Bakersfield, CA (February 27, 2024) A woman was struck by a vehicle on Wible Road in Bakersfield on Sunday evening. The driver then fled the scene, leaving the pedestrian lying on the roadway with critical injuries, officers said.
It was just after 6:30 p.m. when a female pedestrian was walking along the southbound lanes of Wible Road. Without warning, a vehicle approached and hit the woman in the 8500 block. The driver didn’t stop to help the victim, nor did they call for help. Instead, they continued driving until they were out of sight, leaving the woman with serious injuries.
The California Highway Patrol arrived at the scene and found the woman lying on the ground with critical injuries. They evaluated her and quickly loaded her onto a gurney before placing her in an ambulance that was at the scene. With sirens wailing and lights flashing, they rushed her to the nearest hospital to receive treatment for major injuries, officers said.
Investigators are diligently working to find the driver of the vehicle who hit the pedestrian and then fled the scene. Evidence at the scene was gathered and officers are determined to find the guilty party in this hit-and-run case. It is illegal to leave the scene of an accident that results in bodily injury, death or the destruction of property. Officers are asking anyone with information in regards to this accident to come forward.
