Pedestrian Killed In Hit-And-Run On SR-163 In San Diego

A pedestrian was struck by two hit-and-run cars and killed in Coyote, California.

San Diego, CA (February 29, 2024) A tragic accident claimed the life of a pedestrian on State Route 163 on Wednesday morning. The pedestrian was struck by a vehicle that quickly fled the scene, officers reported. It happened near Interstate 5 right around 6:00 a.m.

It was early morning on February 28th as a man walked along the traffic lanes of southbound State Route 163. California Highway Patrol Officer Salvador Castro said in a news release that the man was hit by an unknown vehicle that immediately fled the scene.

Officers with the California Highway Patrol arrived at the scene and found the victim lying in the center median of SR-163. He had sustained life-threatening injuries during the collision and the suspect left him alone to die. Paramedics did everything they could, but in the end, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers had to close two of the southbound lanes on State Route 163 as they waited for the coroner to arrive and investigators gathered evidence. This fatal hit-and-run accident remains under investigation, authorities said.
