DUI Driver Hits, Kills Woman Pushing Broken-Down Car In Las Vegas

Stephanie Zamora seriously injured, another killed in Oceanside DUI crash.

Las Vegas, NV (April 10, 2024) Tragedy struck a Las Vegas intersection on Tuesday evening because of a DUI driver. A woman’s Kia Soul broke down and she, along with a group of good Samaritans, were attempting to move the disabled vehicle off the road. A DUI driver slammed into the Kia and then the woman, killing her. The horrible accident took place at the intersection of Tropic Mist Street and Ann Road, officers said.

A 58-year-old Henderson resident was driving her Kia Soul near Jones Boulevard, when the vehicle suddenly died. The woman made several attempts to restart the Kia, but the disabled vehicle wouldn’t start. She got out of the vehicle and began trying to push it in an attempt to get it off of the roadway. As she tried to push her vehicle, a group of good Samaritans nearby saw her and ran over to help.

They were all pushing the Kia off the roadway when, at approximately 6:45 p.m., a 2012 Hyundai Veloster approached them. The vehicle was heading west on Ann Road and veered right towards the Kia and the group that was pushing it. The Hyundai didn’t slow down or even try to avoid the Kia, according to reports. It slammed into the back of the Kia and ran over the woman who owned it.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department hurried to the scene and found the Kia with rear-end damage. The woman was lying on the ground, motionless, and in very bad shape, according to reports. Paramedics rushed to her side, ready to give life-saving measures, but instead, they found that she was already dead. With heavy hearts, they pronounced her dead at the scene and called for the coroner.

The driver of the Hyundai, identified as 29-year-old Cody Hill, was intoxicated, officers said. They noticed he seemed under the influence of something and performed a field sobriety test, which he failed. Officers arrested him and he is facing charges of DUI resulting in death and two misdemeanors.
