San Diego, CA (May 31, 2024) A man and a woman were walking with bikes, their dog joining them, when they were suddenly struck by a vehicle near the Palm Avenue off-ramp. The accident claimed the life of one of the pedestrians, according to police reports. It happened on southbound Interstate 805 right around 7:42 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29th.
It was Wednesday evening in San Diego as a man and a woman walked together, pushing their bikes along the shoulder of I-805. Their dog accompanied them as they walked and all seemed well. Suddenly, not too far from the Palm Avenue off-ramp, a white Toyota approached them. Before anyone knew what was happening, the vehicle struck both pedestrians, knocking them to the ground. One of the pedestrians ended up trapped under the vehicle, according to reports.
The California Highway Patrol arrived at the scene with the San Diego Police Department and immediately called for paramedics. They found one of the victims trapped beneath the Toyota, officers reported. Firefighters helped remove the victim from beneath the vehicle and began performing CPR. Paramedics did everything they could but the victim’s injuries were just too severe. At approximately 8:06 p.m., the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers covered the body with a tarp and waited for the coroner to arrive.
Officers questioned those involved and gathered as much evidence at the scene as they could find. They are determined to figure out exactly what took place on Interstate 805 and who was at fault. There has been no word as to whether or not the second Pedestrian was injured.
