Wilmington, CA (June 3rd) A pedestrian was tragically struck and killed by a vehicle while walking on the Harbor 110 Freeway on-ramp in Wilmington. It all happened right around 10:35 p.m. on the Anaheim Street on-ramp to the 110 Freeway, officers reported. As the community of Wilmington woke up to this tragic news the following morning, many were shocked and saddened.
The sun had set and California roads were blanketed in darkness at 10:30 on Sunday night. A female pedestrian was walking on the on-ramp to the Harbor 110 Freeway in Wilmington. Initial reports indicated that the woman was wearing dark-colored clothing as she walked, making her difficult to see. At approximately 10:34, a pickup truck drove along the on-ramp and did not notice the pedestrian until it was too late. The pickup struck her, knocking her to the ground.
Emergency crews hurried to the scene, the night sky lit up by their flashing lights as they made their way to the scene. Upon arrival, they found the pedestrian on the ground, motionless. Paramedics rushed to the woman’s side, ready to give her life-saving treatment, but sadly, she had been killed in the accident. She was pronounced dead at the scene and a tarp was gently placed over her body.
Officers investigated the scene as they waited for the coroner to arrive at the scene. The California Highway Patrol closed the on-ramp to the 110 Freeway, as well as lanes 3 and 4 on the freeway. Tragic accidents like this seem to occur more often. If you have any information regarding this collision, you are asked to contact the California Highway Patrol.
