Wendem Herzog Killed, Two Injured When Vehicle Hits Horse In Reno

Reno, NV (June 13, 2024) A crazy, yet deadly collision occurred in Reno, leaving the community saddened as the news spread. The fatal accident occurred on US 395 when a vehicle struck a horse in the road in the middle of the night. The accident claimed the life of 19-year-old Wendem Herzog, and left two others with serious injuries, according to reports. It happened around 2:20 a.m. on June 3rd, near Red Rock Road.

Initial reports indicated that a 2008 Subaru Tribeca was heading north on US-395 in the dark at approximately 2:20 a.m. The vehicles headlights were there only lights illuminating the roadway as the vehicle headed along with three occupants, according to reports. As the vehicle approached the Red Rock Road off-ramp, the driver suddenly saw a horse in the road, directly in front of them. The driver didn’t see the horse in the road until it was too late and the Subarura slammed into the horse.

Emergency crews hurried to the scene and found the damaged vehicles, debris and the horse in the roadway. They went to the vehicle, ready to give medical aid to anyone in need. They found the three occupants inside the vehicle, all three with life-threatening injuries. Paramedics quickly removed the victims from the vehicle and placed them in ambulances before rushing them all to a local hospital for emergency treatment. Sadly, one of the passengers, 19-year-old Queen Creek resident Wendem Herzog, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. With heavy hearts, the medical staff pronounced the young man dead at the hospital.

Officers investigated the scene, following the accident, and are asking witnesses to contact them with any information regarding this accident. Crews worked to clear the debris from the roadway and officers requested a tow truck to come and remove the damaged vehicle from the roadway, reports indicated.
