Morena, CA (June 17, 2024) A severe car crash occurred on Monday afternoon that was so bad, California Highway Patrol had to shut down all northbound lanes on Interstate 5. The collision happened on the freeway just south of Sea World Drive. Vehicles are slowly being directed toward Interstate 5 in order to get around the lane closures.
The Morena-area accident is still being investigated. What we know is that San Diego officials have confirmed that one person was ejected from the car in the crash. This person thankfully survived, but they are currently in the UCSD Medical Center in Hillcrest because they suffered severe injuries.

It is unclear if that person was the only person involved in the crash or if they were the driver. It is also unclear what caused the crash.
This is the second serious I-5 crash to occur in San Diego over the past three days. The other one happened on Saturday morning: A 20-year-old man veered left and collided with a median guard rail. The car rolled over several times. He was tragically killed, and his two passengers sustained injuries. That crash also occurred in the northbound lanes.
