Elk Grove, CA (June 20, 2024)
Early June saw a tragic car crash on Grant Line Road and Franklin Boulevard. Around 9:20 p.m. that evening, officers received reports about a stolen vehicle in the area. The leads brought them toward Highway 99, where they found the stolen car about two miles north of the reported location. Police say the driver sped away when they approached.
Sadly this pursuit, which didn’t last long, led the driver of the stolen car to collide into an SUV. The crash occurred at Franklin Boulevard and Laguna. The driver of the SUV, a 55-year-old Sacramento man, was badly hurt. EMS took him to the hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries. His name was Gregg Umipeg.

In a shocking report, the driver of the stolen vehicle was identified as a 13-year-old. The juvenile was arrested on several charges. They have been booked for felony evading resulting in serious injury or death.
