San Jacinto, CA (June 25, 2024) One person was seriously injured when they were involved in a collision that stemmed from another man fleeing a DUI checkpoint.
On Friday, June 21, Riverside County Sheriff’s Department was conducting a DUI checkpoint in San Jacinto. A man named Antonio Cervantes apparently tried to escape from the checkpoint that evening. At around 10:11 p.m. he was involved in a collision at the intersection of Esplanade and San Jacinto Avenue.
When deputies arrived, they found two cars. One was overturned. Each vehicle held one occupant, and both sustained serious injuries. The fleeing driver, Cervantes, passed away at Riverside University Health System Medical Center shortly afterward. The other driver is reportedly expected to survive.
The details of the crash are still under investigation.
