Aaron Dillon Killed In Head-On Motorcycle Crash; Butte County

Motorcyclist killed in collision with truck on Old Redwood Highway in Sonoma County.

Butte County, CA (June 29, 2024) 31-year-old Aaron Dillon, from Sterling City, was tragically killed while riding a motorcycle in Butte County. The head-on collision occurred at approximately 7:00 p.m. on Friday evening on Skyway, not far from Powellton Road, according to reports.

Aaron Dillon was riding a motorcycle on Skyway in Butte County, headed north, on Friday evening, June 28th. At the same time, a teenager from Magalia was also riding a motorcycle on Skyway. The juvenile was traveling south, approaching Dillon. Right around 7:00 p.m., near Powellton Road, for reasons that are still unknown, Dillon swerved into opposing traffic, officers reported. The two motorcycles collided, head-on, in the northbound lanes of Skyway. The two riders were thrown from their motorcycles and landed in the middle of the roadway, according to reports.

The Butte County Sheriff’s Office sent deputies to the scene after receiving the 911 call. Upon arrival, they found the two motorcycles lying on the ground, both severely damaged. The riders were also both on the ground, motionless. Deputies hurried to the two riders, ready to give life-saving treatment. An air ambulance was called to the scene to quickly take Dillon, who was dying, to a hospital. Dillon hung on for several hours, officers reported, but in the end, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at Enloe Hospital. The teenager on the other motorcycle also sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to U.C. Davis to receive treatment. There has been no updates on their condition, officers reported.

The California Highway Patrol arrived at the scene and gathered evidence. They took statements from those who witnessed the collision and are working as quickly as they can to determine what exactly occurred that evening. Both motorcycles were left as heaps of busted metal and bent tires following the collision. They both had to be hauled from the scene by a flatbed truck. Crews also cleaned up debris that was left behind from this head-on motorcycle crash.
