San Diego, CA (July 6, 2024) It was Wednesday afternoon, July 3rd, in San Diego when a traumatic collision left one person with serious injuries. The accident occurred just minutes after 12:00 p.m. on the Interstate 15 Freeway. The scene wasn’t far from Rancho Penasquitos Boulevard, officers reported.
A Ford Fusion was reportedly heading south on Interstate 15 and driving well over 100 miles per hour. A pickup truck that was hauling a fifth wheel travel trailer was one of many vehicles blocking the intersection as the speeding car approached. The vehicle couldn’t slow down in time and had no empty lane for passing. It ended up slamming into another vehicle on the freeway, according to reports.

Emergency crews hurried to the scene and found the southbound lanes blocked by damaged vehicles or debris. One of the vehicles had a windshield that was completely smashed, officers reported. They hurried to the vehicles, ready to give life-saving treatment to anyone who needed it. They found one person with serious injuries, reports indicated. The injured individual was loaded into an ambulance and rushed to a nearby hospital to receive treatment. The status of the victim’s condition is unknown at this time.
Officers had to issue a SigAlert for drivers due to the damaged vehicles and emergency vehicles blocking several southbound lanes of the freeway. Officers gathered evidence and took statements from those at the scene before tow trucks arrived to remove the damaged vehicles from the roadway. It took crews quite a while to clean the debris and glass from the scene before the lanes could be reopened to vehicles.
