Vacaville, CA (July 11, 2024) A police officer on a motorcycle was killed today in Vacaville, a city in Solano County about 35 miles from Sacramento. His name was Matthew Bowen, and he was 32.
Officers were dispatched to the area of Leisure Town Road and Orange Drive after hearing reports of a major traffic collision.
Reports say that Bowen was hit by a car while making a traffic stop. The woman who hit him tried to flee on foot after the crash, but witnesses rushed to stop her. When authorities arrived, she was booked into Solano County Jail on suspicion of homicide and driving under the influence causing injury and/or death.
The scene was located only one block from the onramps to Interstate 80. The intersection was shut down and was reportedly closed for several hours as cleanup continued and officers investigated the collision.
