Richmond, CA (July 17, 2024) A teenager was killed in a car accident in a driveway early Monday, July 15, in Richmond.
The tragedy occurred at about 12:05 a.m. when the victim, identified as 16-year-old Ricardo Funes, was leaving after watching T.V. with his family. As he was backing his car out of the driveway, a speeding vehicle slammed into him.
Both drivers were trapped in their vehicles. When police and paramedics arrived, they tragically pronounced the teenager dead at the scene.
The driver of the car that hit Funes was treated for injuries and released at the hospital. Afterward, he was placed under arrest for vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and driving under the influence of alcohol causing bodily injury.
