Berkeley, CA (July 23, 2024) A horrific crash happened in the early hours of Saturday, July 20 in Berkeley.
A 45-year-old man was reportedly driving eastbound on I-80 around 2:30 a.m. when his SUV left the road for unknown reasons. It crashed through a guardrail on the right shoulder onto Eastshore Highway, rolled multiple times, crushed several electrical boxes in its path–ripping them out of the ground–and somehow came to rest on its wheels on I-80.
Firefighters found the man trapped in his vehicle and unconscious. However, he was breathing. They extricated him after removing a door and raising the collapsed roof, then rushed him to Highland Hospital.
As of Saturday, the driver was still alive. His current condition hasn’t been made available.
Another person reportedly suffered minor injuries, though they were not an occupant of the man’s vehicle.
