Police Pursuit In Rancho Murieta Ends In Fiery Crash; 4 Injured

4 injured when police pursuit ends in a collision in Rancho Murieta.

Rancho Murieta, CA (July 30, 2024) A shocking incident unfolded in Rancho Murieta on Monday night, July 29th, as officers pursued a vehicle. The fleeing car ended up causing a fiery crash with another vehicle at the intersection of Jackson Road (Highway 16) and Murieta Drive, according to reports. The fiery collision occurred right around 8:00 p.m.

Officers saw a red Hyundai Elantra speeding through Amador County, east of Rancho Murieta, and attempted to pull over the vehicle. The driver of the Hyundai refused to stop, though, and sped off, leading officers on a high-speed chase. The driver headed north on Highway 49 and then made a sudden transition onto Jackson Road, also known as Highway 16. As the Hyundai headed towards Rancho Muriets, it crashed into another vehicle at the intersection of Murieta Drive. Moments after the collision, the Hyundai caught on fire, officers reported.

The Hyundai had slammed into the driver’s side of a dark-colored SUV, T-boning it. The Hyundai hit the vehicle at such a high speed that it completely smashed the little red car, according to reports. The windows all blew out and the hood was ripped open. The front of the vehicle was knocked completely off and even the roof dented from the forceful impact. Flames began spreading from the engine, as well. The other vehicle involved sustained major damage to its driver’s side, reports indicated.

Officers called for paramedics to come to the scene. The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District arrived at the scene and found the two people inside the Hyundai, a man and a woman, with critical injuries following the accident. Both were rushed to a local hospital where they remain in critical condition, according to reports. Two people inside the other vehicle sustained minor injuries, officers said. They were transported to a local hospital where they were treated and released.
