San Jose, CA (July 30, 2024) A tragic accident claimed the life of a bicyclist in San Jose on Friday afternoon, July 26th. Initial reports stated that the bicyclist was riding through San Jose when he collided with two vehicles at the intersection of East Julian Street and North 19th Street. The fatal accident occurred in the Julian and Saint James neighborhood at approximately 12:20 p.m.
It was a Friday afternoon in San Jose as a bicyclist rode along East Julian Street. As he approached the intersection of North 10th Street, he failed to stop at a red light. As he entered the intersection, he crashed into the back of a Ford pickup truck as it entered the intersection from the north on a green light. The bicyclist lost control and fell off the bike, landing on the roadway. He was then struck by a Chevy sedan that was heading south.
Officers arrived at the scene and found the bicyclist on the ground with life-threatening injuries. The accident caused a major traffic hazard at the intersection as vehicles avoided the bicyclist and traffic came to a halt. The San Jose Police Department requested an ambulance at the scene. Paramedics quickly loaded the bicyclist into an ambulance and rushed him to a nearby hospital to receive treatment for his injuries. Unfortunately, he succumbed to those injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital, officers reported.

The drivers of both vehicles remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities following this deadly bicycle collision. Officers said that this accident is San Jose’s 26th traffic death this year. Officers are still investigating this accident to determine why the rider ran a red light and rode right into oncoming traffic. The bicycle was a damaged heap of tires and metal and had to be hauled from the scene.
