Officer Long Pham Struck By Car In San Jose

2 officers struck, 1 killed and 1 injured by DUI driver in San Jose.

San Jose, CA (August 5, 2024) A shocking accident occurred in San Jose on Sunday night, August 4th, that left one killed and another injured. Two San Jose Police Department Community Service Officers were struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Palm Avenue and Monterey Highway. The 8:30 p.m. accident claimed one officer’s life and left the other officer with injuries.

Two Community Service Officers with the San Jose Police Department were controlling traffic on Monterey Highway at Palm Avenue on Sunday evening. As they stood in the dark, directing traffic, a vehicle struck them, according to reports. The force from the impact sent both officers to the ground with serious injuries.

The San Jose Police Department quickly arrived at the scene and found both officers on the ground. Paramedics hurried to give life-saving aid, but one of the officers had already succumbed to their injuries, reports indicated. Sadly, authorities pronounced the officers dead at the scene. The second officers sustained serious injuries and was transported to a hospital in the area with non-life-threatening injuries. Reports indicated that the officer is expected to make a full recovery.

Officers determined that the driver who struck the officers had been under the influence at the time of the accident. The driver was placed under arrest at the scene and is facing multiple charges. The San Jose Police Department stated that this is the first time in the department’s history that a community service officer has been killed.

Update: The deceased officer has been identified as Long Pham.
