El Granada, CA (August 6, 2024) A tragic accident claimed the life of 65-year-old Cathleen Stockman in El Granada last Thursday, August 1st. The traumatic collision occurred between Stockman’s SUV and a semi-truck, according to police reports. It all happened on Highway 1, near Coral Reef Avenue, right around 1:45 p.m.
Stockman was driving a Lexus SUV, heading south on Highway 1. A semi-truck was heading north on Highway 1 at the same time and the two approached each other, officers reported. For reasons that remain unknown, the SUV made a left turn as the truck was passing and ended up crashing into the side of the semi-truck. The collision blocked Highway 1 in both directions for several hours, officers reported.
Authorities arrived at the scene and found the SUV completely destroyed from the impact. They hurried to the vehicle, ready to give life-saving treatment to anyone in need. The only person in the SUV was Stockman. Officers found her unresponsive and determined she had sustained fatal injuries in the collision. Sadly, 65-year-old Cathleen Stockman was pronounced dead at the scene and officers requested someone from the San Mateo County Coroner’s Officer to come to the scene.

Two people were inside the the semi-truck, according to reports. Neither the driver or the passenger sustained injuries in the collision on Highway 1, officers stated. However, the truck was leaking diesel fuel following in the collision. Officers called a clean-up service that specializes in gasoline spills to come and clean the diesel from the scene. A tow truck had to remove the damaged Lexus SUV as well, reports indicated.
Officers took statements from the driver and passenger in the semi-truck, as well as those who witnessed the accident. They gathered evidence from the scene and are working to determine exactly what took place on Highway 1 to cause this deadly collision. The wreck left debris and glass behind as well. Crews worked diligently to clean it all from the roadway so traffic could resume.
