Hawthorne, CA (August 7, 2024) An early morning accident took place on the Glenn Anderson (105) Freeway in Hawthorne on Wednesday, August 7th, claiming one person’s life. The collision occurred around 2:45 a.m. and involved multiple vehicles. The tragic collision happened near the Crenshaw Boulevard off-ramp, according to reports.
As vehicles headed along the Glenn Anderson (105) Freeway in Hawthorne on Wednesday morning, a multi-vehicle collision occurred. It was right around 2:45 a.m. as vehicles traveled west on the freeway. For reasons that remain unknown, several vehicles suddenly collided. In the early morning darkness, under the glow of street lights along the freeway, the damaged vehicles sat, blocking traffic on the westbound freeway.
Dispatchers contacted the CHP at exactly 2:43 a.m., according to reports. Officers Sean Lough with the California Highway Patrol told City News Service that they arrived at the scene and found the victim lying in the No. 2 lane of the freeway. The Los Angeles County Fire Department sent paramedics to the scene. They rushed to the victim’s side to give them life saving measures, but it was too late. Officers reported that the victim had been killed during the collision. Sadly, they pronounced the victim dead at the scene and called for a coroner.
Officers had to close four lanes of the westbound freeway, following the collision, and issued a SigAlert. They gathered information and are working to determine what happened on the 105 Freeway in Hawthorne to cause this fatal multi-vehicle crash. Tow trucks arrived at the scene and began hauling away the damaged vehicles as crews worked to remove the debris and glass that remained on the freeway. Officers continue to investigate this accident in an effort to not only piece together what happened, but to also discover who was at fault.
