San Jose, CA (August 7, 2024) The community of San Jose is mourning the loss of a child following a fatal accident on Tuesday afternoon, August 6th. The child was riding an Infinity scooter when they were struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Camden Avenue and Leigh Avenue, right around 4:20 p.m. Sadly, the child did not survive the accident.
The child was riding an Infinity scooter when they entered the intersection of Camden Avenue and Leigh Avenue. As the child entered the intersection, they were struck by a vehicle, according to reports. The force from the impact knocked the child from the scooter, causing them to land several feet away. The driver of the vehicle immediately stopped and waited for authorities to arrived at the scene.
Officers rushed to the intersection and found the child and the scooter on the ground.They hurried to the child’s side, prepared to administer life-saving techniques. They found the child unresponsive, reports indicated. The impact had taken their life and, with heavy hearts, officers pronounced the child dead at the scene.
Update: The child has been identified as 11-year-old Esias Amaru Ramos-Berhane.
The scene was thoroughly investigated and officers spoke with witnesses, as well as the driver involved. They are determined to figure out what happened at that San Jose intersection. The scooter was hauled from the scene following the investigation. Citizenn Max Siegel with the organization “Families for Safe Streets,” told news outlets that this is a 30th traffic fatality in San Jose this year. It is a heartbreaking record.
