Escondido, CA (August 9, 2024) A hit-and-run driver critically injured a young pedestrian last night.
Right before 9:30 p.m. on August 8, a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle. The driver fled, and police are still searching for them. The pedestrian was left with critical injuries; the person who called 911 said that they appeared to be unconscious in the street.
Officers said that the victim may have been riding a skateboard when he was struck. Paramedics took him to the hospital, and he is still in critical condition.
EPD asks anyone with information to get in contact with them as the investigation continues.
Update: The victim has been identified as 14-year-old Angel Ornelas, who passed away at the hospital on Monday, August 19. Family friends of the Ornelas have established a GoFundMe for Angel’s loved ones.
