Oakland, CA (September 3, 2024) An early morning collision in Oakland claimed a person’s life on Sunday, September 1st, 2024. A DUI driver was also arrested following this multi-vehicle collision on the 880 Freeway, according to reports. The tragedy occurred around 5:34 a.m., not far from the Embarcadero exit.
A Toyota RAV4, a Tesla Model Y and a Tesla Model 3 were all driving along the 880 Freeway when they suddenly collided. As the damaged vehicles sat on the Freeway, the Tesla Model Y was rear-ended by a Freightliner. Officers have said that the cause of this accident is still unknown and being investigated.
Officers quickly arrived at the scene and found the driver of the Tesla Model Y with fatal injuries. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, according to reports. After speaking with everyone involved in the collision, officers determined that the driver of the Tesla Model 3 was intoxicated. They placed the suspect under arrest at the scene for DUI.
Several lanes of the 880 Freeway were closed following the collision, causing major traffic delays. Officers gathered evidence and are working to better understand exactly what happened on that freeway on Sunday morning. It took crews a while to clean up the scene before the lanes could be reopened, according to reports.
Update (9/12): The victim has been identified as Criscel Dela Rosa. She is survived by her husband and 7-year-old daughter.
