Donald Baker, 64, Dies In Lake Don Pedro Car Accident

Lake Don Pedro, CA (September 12, 2024) A terrible accident occurred at Lake Don Pedro in the early morning on Wednesday, September 11. A 64-year-old man named Donald Baker’s car accelerated backwards into the water off the boat ramp, leading to a fatal situation.

Reports state that Baker was backing his Kia sedan into the Don Pedro Reservoir at about midnight when it suddenly accelerated for unknown reasons. Tulumne County Sheriff David Vasquez said that the station received a 911 call that night from a man who said he had ended up in the reservoir with water pouring into his vehicle.

In devastating fashion, the phone call was cut short before the dispatchers could gather more information. California Highway Patrol responded to the reservoir bank, but they could not see the man’s vehicle anywhere. They used an underwater robot to search the area, and it eventually located the car about 20 feet deep in the water. Donald Baker was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
