Head-On Crash On 8 Freeway Injured 2 In Imperial County

Two-vehicle collision on Highway 154 in Santa Barbara Leaves 3 injured.

Imperial County, CA (September 25, 2024) Two people sustained injuries in a head-on collision on the 8 Freeway in Imperial County on Friday morning, September 20th, 2024. The two-vehicle collision occurred around 6:40 a.m. near Gordon’s Well Road, according to reports.

A subcompact SUV, driven by a 70-year-old woman, drifted into the oncoming lane on the 8 Freeway. As it did, a pickup truck, driven by a 28-year-old man, was approaching it and had no time to react, according to reports. The two vehicles collided, head-on.

The California Highway Patrol arrived at the scene and found both drivers with injuries. Paramedics requested an air ambulance to transport the 70-year-old woman to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs. Officers reported that the woman sustained serious injuries in the accident. The other driver was taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, according to reports.

Officers are still investigating this collision in an effort to understand what exactly happened to cause the SUV to drift into oncoming traffic. Tow trucks arrived at the scene to remove both of the damaged vehicles and crews worked as quickly as they could to remove the debris that was left on the roadway.
